I’m not a football fan and I won’t be but I have to say these few points regarding this whole “crisis”:
GAZA
To those who mentioned “Gaza” in their arguments. Yes Gaza deserves more attention, Yes this shouldn’t happen. Yes if 1% of the effort and energy spent into the rage and hate was directed to Gaza when it was under attack it would have been much better. But dear “patriotic” person, you have to know that Egypt and Algeria are both ruled by tyrants. So if they decided to stand up for a decent cause. I think they should start with theirs.
(Again not saying that protesting at an embassy over a football game or whatever that happened because of it is right. And Yes I wished that all of these crowds did the same for Gaza.)
BROTHERS
It’s not new to see racist comments from both sides. Come on people, since when we Arabs weren’t racists? or sexists? or sectarian? We’re killing each other..why are you surprised we’re fighting with people from a different country!!
I mean in Lebanon, people are fighting over the assholes they follow. You shouldn’t be surprised..it’s in our blood and genes!
PRESS
I hope you all burn in hell!! Especially who used VERY low ways to make this worse. Shame on you!!
I have a final thought or a question actually.. Why is it that the Egyptian people were the only Egypt supporters in the match? At least here in Lebanon, I’m not aware of a romantic relation with Algeria or a hate one with Egypt either…Is there something I’m missing here?? Or maybe just a coincidence?

GAZA: It deserves top priority over any other news!!!
Both countries r ruled by tryrants no doubt, they hav the exact problem Egypt has!!! Like high prices, proverty, saddistic rule!
BROTHERHOOD: Arab brotherhood is a FARCE!!! It will never happen and there is no use pretending it exists every1 does watever it wants whenever it wants without thinking abt how it will affect its neighbors…
MEDIA: Unfortunately watchin TV shows is more important than makin a difference in our society and their manipulation is disgusting
Now, were i totally disagree wit u!! I dunno abt Lebanon most of my Lebanese frnd were 4 Egypt, and Syrians, Saudis etc!! I dunno where u got ur info from!! Surely there r supporters tht werent wit Egypt but u cant deny tht there were many arabs supporting tht team!!
The spark tht lit the fire is integratin politics with the epic egypt vs algeria game!! When Algerians called Egyptians Yahoud tht was under any circumstance acceptable…If u hav a problem wit the gov take it up wit them but dnt say tht egyptians r proIsraeli cz they r far from it….
Many Egyptians lost their lives during two wars (whether we won or not, isnt tht issue!)
And btw ppl in Gaza were happy when Egypt won the game in Cairo and its well documented!!! GAZA was imprisoned (tht the verb i like to use) and still is by the government and it still wanted Egypt 2 win!!
Either way i dnt care abt football, the whole sport has made ppl 4get wats more important like high meat prices, high gas prices, bad education etc!!
Either way politics and football should never mix!! EVER!!
Ppl in Egypt hav now realized there is nothin called Brotherhood and r in angry, not by the loss, but by the ‘estehlal’ for Egyptian blood by the Algerians!!
And the Sudanese who were supporting Algeria changed their mind after the damaged their city and belongings!!
Sorry if its a long post!!
But generalizing tht no1 supported Egypt is incorrect and generalizing tht the hate is abt soccer is incorrect!! hatred was shown on both sides but its not cause of a soccer match, it because of the lack of respect 4 one another!!
On another side note, the day after Israel attacked Gaza 1 million Egyptians were at a protest and they were beaten up and they still showed up day after day, and thts was in Cairo alone without including other cities in Egypt!!! Its distrubing to me tht an action by a tyrant is used to judge an entire nation!!! He’s a tyrant we tried doing somethin it didnt work!!! If u hav a problem wit the government take it out on the government and not the ppl!!!
THANKS sorry i kno its all long post the last bit just got 2 me
i should proread more often i meant when the Algerians called the Egyptian ppl Yahound it was under any circumstance UNACCEPTABLE!!
@Sally,
Don’t apologize it’s not long 🙂 I’m sorry if I didn’t make the last point clear..
I found it weird that’s why I asked. I got this impression(it’s not an info or a fact) from the people I saw around me (friends and family ..and Facebook).
The last bit that got to you was a question and a request of clarification (which you did) about this thing. Again, it wasn’t an info or a fact..and definitely not generalization.
I noticed this around me (just a single person)and found it so weird and unbelievable to be true.
Ofcourse the hate we’re seeing now and today isn’t about soccer but it started with soccer. We can’t deny that.
Dear Sally I grew up in Egypt with the Egyptians.. you don’t need to tell me about the Egyptian people…I know. What I don’t know is where you got the idea of me “taking it out” on the people.
I like it, but I’ve some reasons why we as Arabs behave in such way, first we’re keen on Arab nationalism, in simplest problem we forget we’re Muslim or at least in Islamic countries (It doesn’t mean we don’t care for non-muslim people) when we say Gaza, they say Palestinians are blah blah blah… and we forget in seconds the main rule to be defenders on Islamic\Arabic country to people hate the others (whoever) they also say why should I care for them, they are fighting each other (Hamas\Fateh) and no one knows what Hamas doing for Palastine. Arabic\Islamic people just hear what media transefers by the read-only channel which is TV but very few who is going to internet and search for the truth without being blasted to specific side.
From above lines we can say the reasons of being racists, sexists or sectarian…
– We don’t apply Islamic rules which organizes our whole life for Muslims and non-muslims.
– Culture is ZERO.
– We don’t read we just hear and talk.
Thank you for your great post 🙂
I didn’t understand this “Why is it that the Egyptian people were the only Egypt supporters in the match?” do you mean all Arabs are supporting Algeria?
Not all Arabs…The non-Egyptians I saw during and after the match..It was strange..
I am neither football fan nor wishing to see this circus which is running for nothing real. Shame on everyone participated in whoever, especially the cheap media who have nothing to do but gaining more attention. By the way, I’d like you to read my post which I wrote 3 days ago in Arabic over my blog.
@Hicham
I read your post and you had comments off so I’ll tell you here..
Thank you Libanese nights, I think one of the main reasons behind the crisis is the ignorance, i.e in reality people from different countries in the region do not have any idea about the others history and civilization ! Moreover, if you add some political manipulation i.e the contemplated transfer of power from Mubarak father to his son you have an idea bout what lies behind the crisis between the two countries..
Cheers,
Safouen
